How do I care for Beljoly leather products?

Mis à jour le 5 March 2025

All our leathers are tanned with either aniline or vegetable tannins. These methods are considered the most luxurious and are reserved for only the highest quality products. The most natural methods of leather tanning, they involve the fewest possible chemicals to ensure that the natural grain and DNA of the leather are not compromised. The more natural the leather finish, the more it requires the use of the finest, flawless hides, which makes the leather surface more vulnerable to potential marks or scratches, and also requires more care and maintenance.

Given the balance of materials and processes involved, details such as contour painting may not be completely resistant to damage, and may be sensitive to sudden or prolonged changes in atmosphere such as temperature and humidity. Every skin is unique, and this also means that natural imperfections can sometimes appear. Given the quality of the leathers used, marks of veins, folds or shades of color may appear on the grain. All these characteristics are the guarantee of a genuine raw material; they are not imperfections but rather subtle signs that prove the purity of the leather.

Cleaning

Beljoly recommends cleaning the outer surface of the leather with a soft cloth and warm soapy water. Make sure the cloth is sufficiently wrung out so that it is slightly damp, then run it gently over the leather surface. Repeat with clear water.

Storage

When not in use, we recommend storing your leather article in its storage bag in a cool, dry place.

Care

Do not expose your leather goods to prolonged sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight or other intense light sources can cause irreversible fading, color degradation or deformation of the leather.

Do not expose to water, moisture or high temperatures. Water can cause damage by penetrating the leather and causing bubbles or marks that cannot be removed. Never immerse leather in water or clean it with detergents. Never wash the leather lining. Refrain from ‘feeding’ the leather with products such as waxes, polishes or upholstery soap. This can make the surface sticky, attract dirt and cause irreversible damage.
